When it is running, and it is going to get better and better, ( key is sunspots) Try an oldtimers trick with your radio. The trick is to fine tune the band by backing off the rf gain enough to clean out most of the static and then run your clairifier.

There are still several SSB clubs active in the US, and many more world wide. I will try to post a list of them and when & where they meet.
If you are only using AM, your missing 1/2 the fun of CB. All it takes to have a SSB club is a couple people using it.

I find it curious that a man in your position doesn't use SSB. Is that why you push the 3300 and the general lee? They don't have it? Anyway I guess this would explain why there aren't more posts here.
I may be taking you the wrong way, but it sounds to me like your discouraging the use of it, on a board subject for it.

For one thing, the truckers and farmers in my part of the world anyway, are using it and ssb radios are selling well. Most bases have it, and when customers find out what it is, they want it.
Using ssb allows longer communications with the same power output from the equipment, more people on the same bands and channels. I try to clue as many people in as possible, as the conditions are going to be improving over the next several years.
As I stated in my earlier post, I will be posting a list of clubs and their operating practices and times. It is just taking me a while to compile all of them.
Now as to shooting skip, if your not using SSB, your missing out on some serious fun.

If SSB is your thing thats great. You've got it 100% I sell bodacious AM radios, and I also sell ssb radios to those who want them. Customers call me to buy bodacious am radios mainly because thats the target market I sell to.
My mechanic services corvettes. He services mine. Is he missing out on the entire minivan market? Yes, but he swammped servicing corvettes. Does that make him wrong?
I sell what I sell because I own a company, and have decided to specialize in a product. I do those products well. I couldn't "tune/peak" a cobra without looking at a service manual if my life depended on it. Why? I haven't serviced one in over 10 years. Am I missing out on a market? Yes, but Im taking twice the share of the market I do have.
I apprecaite your concern for me paying my bills. Im sure your post is just kindness out of concern for me. But anyway, Im very pleased building mainly performance chassis for am, and RCI Ranger gets there pleasure of selling me tens of units each month of their SSB rigs, that arent my main product.
Your posting to a guy that owns a IC-736, Icom 706MKIIG, and a Icom 7000. Your talking to a guy who uses a Ic-275 (all mode 2m) and thats just a few of the ham equipment. I service about 1 or 2 Icom ssb rigs a month.
Hate to tell you, I still dont like SSB, and I like dropping the maul on AM. Our motto right or wrong is SSB is a place to mudducks to run and hide when us big audio monster mobiles are on the air.
Thats my thoughts of SSB, I didnt say you need to think that way. I like the color green, you may like blue. Different choices make the world go around and the market drivin by small businesses like ourselves!

Just another tought really quick like Thumper said this room is for the education of ssb. So if you enjoy ssb we look forward to your posts in this room, helping to educate people on the topic. We could really use your help greatly. Persons have alot of knowledge in a particular subject are a great value to this forum, and we know you've got what it takes. Marven mentioned that in his part of the country, there are quite a few SSB people. It says that he lives in Colorado and if my geography is correct that would be in Rocky Mountain country.
If I'm wrong please correct me because I don't know much about SSB, but wouldn't SSB in that area be more beneficial/ work better due to the interference of the mountains themselves? I know that AM signals can be greatly interfered by trees and buildings. I also know that SSB signals carry a lot farther than AM.
Does that make sense or was something else being implied by Marven?
