What is everyones take on the Galaxy 2547? Is it a decent radio, just wondering I had a TR 696SSB base and it was ok , I had numerous problems with it so I let it go.....first unit I got the RF meter didn't work , so I had to wait a week for the local shop to get another in stock and guess what the talk back didn't work on this one lol so I said screw it and sold it because I was a lil leery of it then.....I would love to have a RCI 2980 , I think I would give my right nut for one  but it is a Lil pricey for me.....later , Shane

2547 is the best all round low(er) cost base on the market. They look nice, talk well. I cant remember what the forum members name is on here who runs a superwackpacked 2547 into a davemade 2x8 base box. Not the norm setup, but he loves it!

I looked into a 2547 for a while as a good base to work with and many people said it was a good unit with good features. The only thing that almost everyone said was that it had no power. It is a standard CB type radio with 4 watts, tuned to 12-15 or so. You would need an amp to get out very far. You would get more power with an export radio.

My biggest things were , to get it set up like I wanted It would be cheaper to just get a 2517 that has everything I want and more.....I really believe CB stands for constant buying .......lol

However I look at radios as an investment, you can always sell one if you are in need :)

Hey guys let me ask this I am drooling over a SWP 2517 but I am just having a hard time dropping the dime on them....I may be better off with a mobile as a base .....What mobiles would make a good base and be equal or close to the 2517 on power....I am just so confused on which route to take....Later

The real difference is that the 2517 has a built in power supply. Most mobile units would work well as a base.

And Mr Radio Active, dont you make fun of my radio. The channel selector board is comming now and as soon as I git it in I plan on shippin this thing to you for a little SuperWackPack job.

If the General Lee had SSB and a Freq counter I would go that route

You can get a external freq counter on the general lee. Does nothing for ssb but its half of what you wanted.

LOL, Yep I sure do. I found my 2517 used and cheep. Thing is someone frankenstiened it. Have had it since early Febuary I think and the last repair part will be here about Wed this comming week. New, well its a bit pricey to buy. But that 47 would be good for a amp later to get out.

I have a 2527 and hate that they discontinued the model but I don't know much more than you have already been told about it. I haven't had a Galaxy that I didn't like.
