Re: What have you recently acquired for new radio gear ?
well, last week I got a Cobra 148 GTL with extra channels, blue lights, and variable power. as of yesterday, i have on order a Voyage VR 9000, Antron 99, and 75 ft of coax!!
Two new radios and a base antenna added to my collection in two weeks time ain't too bad i guess! BUT, it'll probably be slim-pickins for me for awhile...wifey said need to cool the spending!! lol....just doing my part to stimulate the economy!

As a truck driver myself, I do agree, heavy sunspot activity and a rise in skipland transmissions really really get annoying when you try to make a living in your truck, and you utilize the radio as a tool for everyday work. I hate skip in that aspect. But in the 4 wheeler when I'm not in the Cat Powered K.W. I really like laying into my mudduck mobile and bumping down a great big tree-top tall wall to wall keydown fooling everyone down south into thinking I'm a local yocal.579 wrote:I picked up NightHawk's Galaxy 99v, that he had for sale on here. The dam things brand new. I thought I'd never say this, but I'm having so much fun on ssb, I don't care when the skip comes back.

Re: What have you recently acquired for new radio gear ?
Back in February we found out we were going to be moving to the country in the spring, so I picked up a V58 and an A99 together off ebay for about $100 (I only wanted the Maco, but nothing wrong with having an extra antenna around). The seller said that the Maco was never used, apparently he couldn't figure out the assembly instructions and attempted to clamp the base to a mast instead of putting the base over the mast. When it arrived, sure enough it looked like it was never assembled, and the only thing wrong was that the base was mushed a little, which took a few seconds to make round again. Bad thing was that I had to look at that box and drool for over 2 months. We finally got moved this past week, and needless to say my priority was putting the V58 together. What a thing of beauty! It's sitting about 10 feet off the ground temporarily (couldn't wait any longer!), but hopefully it'll be going up in the air this week. Woo hoo!

Re: What have you recently acquired for new radio gear ?
well earlier today, well I guess monday. I got a Antron 99. Also a guy i work with brought me a Cobra 29, Philippines, "93 The meter changes colors, ok i guess. Has talk back in it and for the delta tune knob it has a knob like the vol and seq on new radios, but doesn't seem to affect anything i can see so far , the case is beat up really bad, the channel selector has 2 lights out, but the radio seams to do a good job, the things bad can be replaced. He is askin 50 for it. so im thinkin about getting it. Putting either orange or blue meter and channel lights in it and swing kit with a varible dk, it is aready Peaked and Tune.

Re: What have you recently acquired for new radio gear ?
I acquired a Johnson Messenger 223 recently. The radio and desk mike look almost new. It seems to work pretty good too. One of the gentleman from the coffee shop I frequent asked if I would like to have it. I was the only person he knows that still "plays radio". He also gave me a bunch of extra tubes and crystals for it. I plan to keep the radio and use it once in awhile.

Re: What have you recently acquired for new radio gear ?
Well, I was in the market for a new Galaxy dx-949 and searching on "NON-Sponsor" a few weeks ago I found aGalaxy DX-949 listed as a cd player, with no pic, from a seller with 100% feedback. It was a gamble, but it was only $25 for the BUY IT NOW option, and I'm a gambler, so $37 later I have received my "cd player". It has a couple of marks in the mounting bracket area and arrived dusty. A couple of the knobs moved oddly but I tweaked them a little and they're fine. After some cleanup, I have a like new radio, I'd say easily a 9-9.5 out of 10. It had low output on sideband but I adjusted the ssb alc slightly and I'm at full power and it is right on frequency with my hf rig. I turned up the modulation and adjusted the variable power adjustments to my liking and I love it. This is my first galaxy and it arrived just in time. When I removed my old tr-966 (great radio, just wanted a new set of knobs) the mic gain knob fell off, so I'll be repairing that so it can be a spare or get pimped out with a new face or something.
