Battery Junkies inside

#200224

Post by Pillpopper »

Okay, in the process of setting the mobile using the new truck. Anyone know where I can find a good six cell battery? Had a local place here sell them at a good price but went under about a yr ago. I have heard many good things about the “red tops” but when push come to shove do you think they could out perform a 6 cell under a high load? I am not at all worried about gasses when charging since they will be in the back of the bed.
Thanks for all your help!

OK you need a 4D or 8D. They can be had in deep cycle but there reserve is not much higher than a standard 4D or 8D.

Just go steal someones electric Fork-Lift, and stick the battery in your trunk! I don't think those battery's weigh much over 300 pounds, so as long as you have a good set of shocks on your car, you should be "Good-2-Go!"

Yea 300 pounds are light ones!! Just saying I know batteries, it's how I put food on my plate. A 8D weighs 125 pounds and I am guessing that is what he was wanting to start with.

Oh yea I sell shocks too!! Ya see a trend here!

if i am correct on which batteries you are after (about 2 to 2 1/2 foot long and 1 foot wide) check with local agriculture (john deere.. new holland...versatile) dealers.. or even heavy equipment dealers.. (caterpillar..komatsu..etc) those is where that battery was designed to be used.. but those really arent that great of battery... they are bulky and not really a high output.. they were primarily used for 24v systems (tied together is a series circuit)... you could do just as much good off of a couple of good 1000cca batteries..or even good deep cycle 12v. batteries.. I would run 31 series truck batteries if it were me. Good compromise between size and reserve. I can send some links to battery data if you want.

This is East Penns data on commercial batteries. Napa east of the Mississippi just changes to East Penn from Exide. They claim the same specs from both but that should give you some idea of size, weight, and capacity.

Springs hold up the rear of a vehicle.
Shocks dampen bumps etc.
