Tram Corsair and a VFO: How to?

#139446

Post by Jester »

Hey there,

I was wondering if there is a way to connect, or find a VFO that will work with a 1970 Tram Corsair? It is a 23 channel SSB rig and I was wondering if there is a VFO that will work to expand it to 40...I dont know much about these things, so any info will be appreciated....thanks!

What are the frequency of the xtals used in that radio and do you have
a schematic for it? It's not hard to do if you have that information. As
far as a vfo I have used old Heathkit VF-1's or HG-10's on old Radio Shack
and Lafayette radios. I think Siltronics used to make one that you could adapt to any rig.
It's just a matter of replacing the xtal with the vfo and changing the xtal oscillator
into a buffer amplifier.

A Digiscan is for use with a Pll. In 1970 they used a xtal mixing circuit. A Digiscan
will not work it hooks between the Vco and Downmixer.

Hello, I have the same radio with matching VFO. What you have to do it turn over the radio and open the slot that holds the crystals. Pull out the channel 23a crystal and plug the VFO in the slot. Now you can start using your VFO. Here is how I found out my Tram and VFO both came with owner’s manuals and the instructions on how to install the VFO to the radio.
