Radio choice narrowed down... sort of to two

#6837

Post by johnb_az »

Hi all,

This forum has been very helpful and informative. After reading and re-reading posts here and on another site (1stop forum) I have narrowed down my radio purchase to:

1) Connex3300H/P or General Lee I am not sure which is better by features besides the front mounted mike on the General Lee. Any input?

2) Cobra 200gtl. My concern there is the posts about some problems the Cobra is having. Have the tech's figured this all out or are there still some problems with this radio?

Question on the Connex 4300H/P Besides roger beep and 8 bands vs 6 on the 3300hp what is the difference between this radio and the 3300h/p? Probably go with the 3300h/p if that's the only difference. Is power output the same once a tech is done with it?

From a power perspective I would like to go with the Cobra 200gtl. Due to the issues I have been reading on the boards I would give up the power and go with the 3300hp/General Lee if it is a better quality unit with good audio. I would add a different mike depending on what's recommended.

This radio will go onto my Honda Element with a Wilson 1000 antenna. I will also move it to my Suburban from time to time. I might also use it as a base down the road.

Thanks,
John

I bought a superwackpacked general lee from RadioActive Radios and I
couldn't be happier with my purchase, use it in my 05 KW dump truck when
working and just sit in it and talk at night from my driveway,it puts up with the abuse of construction work without a hiccup, good choice for mobile use.

I BELIEVE THE ONLY DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE LEE & 3300HP IS THE LEE HAS THE FRONT MIC PLUG AS OPPOSED TO THE CONNEX 3300HP HAS THE SIDE MOUNT PLUG. WHICH COULD MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN WHERE YOU MOUNT THE RADIO.

Ok here's the deal.... The General and the Connex are great radio's. You never see bad comments about them. The Cobras suffer from channel bleedover, but I haven't found it too bad. I'm a 200gtl user because I got sucked in by the power. Having said that I don't regret it. I'm running it with a Wilson 5000 and it seems to have a good set of ears. I didn't want to have to put an amp in my car but I wanted the power so it was an easy choice for me. If I had the space for an amp I would have gone a different route though.

I'm not too big on the Lee's. I am glad all of you fellas like your rigs. I stopped selling them due to the 90 day manufactures warranty. I had 4 or 5 with low receive that I couldn't get right past the 90 day warranty. I stopped selling them due to that fact. If you want a radio that walks the dog like the Lee get a Magnum DeltaForce or any other radio that has at least a 1 year warranty. All I carry any more is Magnum, Galaxy, Cobra and Uniden. These are the only people that really back up there product.

Sincerly Southside Radio.

All I can tell you is that Mr. Radioactive knows how to build a loud, proud, and excellent receiving General Lee. :Peace!:

No offense to any radio tech intended.

Heck thats why were techs we need no stinkin factory warranties! lol!!!! RadioActive Radios offers lifetime warranties on all work provided. Galaxy stuff is great too. But any "real" tech work done on any of the big chassis voids the warranties if they have one. That being said again "we need no stinkin factory warranties"

johnb_az,
Did you make a decision?
Or, are you still looking?
You mentioned the 4300, but I will refrain from suggestions if you've already made your choice.

My comment for now is....
Hmmm,
Where should I buy my next radio?
"we need no stinkin factory warranties" Do I detect a little of John Belushi here? Saturday Night Live? Killer Bees?

LOL
I hear ya thumper they are nice, but the facts are if someone hacks up a radio theres not a factory that will warranty it. So it wouldnt apply anyway! lol

If two radios are the exact same quality, same features and one offers a warranty, the other none......well the choice is easy!

The lee has a one year warranty through Don's CB in Erie, PA. This is the same company that does repair work for Connex. Ask your distributor, they will confirm this if they know what they're talking about.

Thanks
