Palomar Skiiper 300 and interenance

Post by Ballixxe »

Hi guys...

Getting a Palomar Skipper 300 soon and I was wondering; will these 300 watts mess up my LCD computer monitor or my plasma TV upstairs?
Should I get a low pass TVI filter just in case?
The linear will be prob about 5 feet from my computer monitor and tower...the plasma TV is upstairs...about 15 feet right above my station.
You input is appreciated.

Are you running an amp already, just a different one? Has it caused interference? Or is this Palomar Skipper 300 going to be the first amplifier put in place near your plasma TV, LCD monitor and PC?

That Palomar Skipper is a sweep tube amp using either 8950 or 6QL6 (I think) tubes and probably will cause some RFI in some cases. You read enough complaints about them. On the other hand to be fair, who knows how well the installations were done to begin with. I just bought one a couple of weeks ago but haven't tested it yet.

I myself would take some precautionary measures such as RF filters or chokes to keep RFI out of my PC desktop computer. If that Palomar should really act up and throw out RFI it could harm your computer drive, riding the various wires and cables straight in the ports.

Many of the radio magazine publications claim that plasma TV's themselves cause all sorts of interference to the airwaves. Don't know, just read it in many instances.

I've used the ferrite split bead chokes on all cables and cords going in/out of the computer tower, modem and phone lines too. I mean, you could just hook 'er up and really it might not cause one single problem at all. Make sure your amplifier and other station components share one really decent grounding point. Saw this post unanswered and wanted to give it a start and maybe bump your post along.
