Is there a way to turn up the voltage on a peterbuilt? Im at 13.8 and would like to get 14-14.2 out of it. Can you turn up the voltage regulator on them. Just trying to get a little more out of my system

Hi Fat Cat 175
It depends on the year of the truck. The older alternators had an external adjustment. I do know that all alternators can they can be modified to increase the output voltage regulation.
Check the Internet. I would bet that there is a forum that deals with the mechanical operation of any vehicle including the Big Rigs. A good tracker mechanic will know.
Respectfully,

The extra watts you get from those few extra tenths of a volt wont be heard or noticed on the other end...
I know I m not helping but thought it should be brought to your attention...

Ditto on the few extra watts. And the other side of that coin, what will that extra voltage do to the rest of the stuff powered by that alternator? Get ready to buy more light bulbs!

There is absolutely nothing wrong with increasing the charging voltage by adding an externally adjustable regulator. 12 volt batteries and all 12 volt vehicles (including big trucks) can most definitely be run as high as 14.8 volts with no problems. In fact, your batteries will have a higher state of charge, and all of your 12 volt accesories (fans, window motors, AC, etc..) will work more efficiently at the slightly higher voltage. Charging above 14.8 volts will increase the heat in the battery during charging, and can shorten battery life.
