90 lumina alternator whine

the thread was lost due to the database problem a few days back, so here is the update. thanks to all who posted suggestions. i looked around and i had one of those pyramid noise filters. i also took apart an old computer power supply and removed the ferrite filter. i then went to the car and opened the hood.

to my amazement, when i ran the power wire, i attached it to the battery main cable. well, in this car, the jump post for a dead battery is on the drivers front fenderwell. that line sits directly beside and feeds guess what......................the fuel pump relay. i would bet that was the root of the problem, but i had the tools assembled to install the filters. i installed the filter on the battery, grounded it per instructions, i have a braided ground strap going from the neg post on the battery to the fender support bracket, and the radio and filter grounded off the shock tower, where the fender support bracket also bolts. i also installed the ferrite filter and looped the wire accordingly.

the result you ask? i had to double check to make sure the engine was running. not a drop of electrical noise in the radio at all. turned off the galaxy noise filter, and not a peep of noise. i think the noise might have been feedback from the fuel pump, but seeing how i put the filters on there anyway, i will never know for sure. needless to say, i dont care because the noise is gone. that is what was going on there. i searched for my original post then i discovered there was a database failure and a restore was needed, so my post was gone. now we all know what was going on with my issue.
