is it possible?
I drive a company truck (Vovlo) so I can do very little as far as mods go. It seems the power supply is not clean at all and there is too much risk (change trucks a lot) to wire straight off the battery. Would a small sealed battery be enough to run a "barefoot" setup(just radio and external speaker)? If so, what would be your recommendations? I mostly listen and rarely talk so how much use could I get out of a charge? Just thought this might be the best way to clean up the power. I don't mind carrying the battery with me back and forth to the cab each night as long as it is not huge.
thanks,

Welcome to the forum by way.
Sure you could. But when you say "barefoot", are you talking about a 4 watt stock radio or a 100 watt export radio? Their amp draw during transmit is significantly different.
Listening draws hardly any power on most all CB's. If you did for example a good quality Orbital or Optima sealed battery and did a trickle charge on it, you'd be good to go I would think? You should be able to leave it on for days listening without much problem, and if you are using it for AM only isn't likely to be a problem (in my mind anyway).
Hope that helps a little.

i ran a bare foot cobra 29 on a emergency 12 votl jump starter box for about a week at a time without revharging trust me not nearly as heavy as a battery
Re: is it possible?
Then again, how about carrying a power line filter along with that radio instead of a battery? Use the truck's power through that power line filter to run the radio. Seems a more 'handy' way of going about it, not 'perfect', but...

As always...'Doc is right.LTL I also run at night and have to swap trucks from time to time. The volvo you are driving should have power lugs coming out some where in there.A red one and a black one or a cig lighter just go with that. Also ask some of the other drivers you meet I"m sure they can help you.
