dodge stick setup
hi everyone i just picked up a 2001 dodge ram 2500 with a 6-speed stick i use to have my radio mounted in the middle on the floor of the front seat. now the new truck has the stick and cup holders in the way any sugestions on how i should mount it i have a galaxy 98vhp it weighs about 10 pounds and has the heat seenks on the botom and back any help or sugestions are apreaceted thanks in advanced
The first thing that comes to mind is how often do you use those cup holders, and will your radio 'fit' where they are?

After that, and since it's a Dodge, you gotta chainsaw??

I got a nice dash cover for it,but under the cover, the dash is falling apart.Thats a big problem with
Dodges-------no support.
i still havent figured out where to put my ss121 in there.

I gotta 5spd stick with bucket seats and a big honkin' console in my 2000 F150. Only place I can find to mount my new Galaxy when I get it is on the underside of the roof above the rear view mirror. My truck has the overhead info center in it but there is room between that and the mirror if I drill the top half of the radio case and bolt it to the info center. Bonus with this is you can see all the controls and display and it frees up space in front of or behind the shifter for other goodies like ext speaker, amp remotes, whatever. I am also toying with the idea of getting an extension cable for the mic so I can run it down the windshield pillar and put a jack on the dash or console for the mic to plug into. That way there is no mic cable hangin in your face all the time. If you don't have the overhead info center there is usually a pretty good size roof frame member just behind the windshield, you might be able to bolt the bracket to that.

the cup holders are around the shifter and i think the radio is to big to mount on the dask it weighs about 10 pounds and i had m other radios mounted on top of the dask on the passanger side but the 98 is to big to put there also with having both heat seenks and also how the power plug is designed. this is a pic of the center of truck and part of dash

Above the stick, just to the right of the lighter(?), what's that? A 'shelf' of some kind? If so, and if you can find a replacement, how about 'whittling' that thing so that the radio will fit into it? There are some "Yeah-but's" in that, but...

yeah i though about that but i think the radio is a little big to go there. i was thinking about getting something like a laptop mount and mounting it just to the right of the shifter some how what you guys think about that it might work
Would it work? Sure, why not? I just wish I could afford, or maybe 'justify', that sort of cost! Then again, nothing says you can't make one, and several people here(?) have done so. (Sit down before looking at the price of those 'stands'!)

yeah i was just looking at some kind of mount like that if anyone has made one how did they do so i have a buddy that could fab me up something just need a design if you know what i mean and how i would bolt it down and what not. any help would be greatful thanks
Get together with you buddy, show him where you'd like that radio to sit, get him to figure out a good way of doing it. Looking at what you want would be a good way for him to make some estimations, sort of. I've done that a time or two, but definitely not on the newer 'style' of vehicles, and there wasn't a 'stick' in the way.. LOL. I'm still trying to figure a 'cheap' way out with my present truck with a 'stick' in the floor. I can see one or two ways, but they mean giving up something I don't wanna give up. Hurry up and get yours done so you can do mine!

I wish I had a nickel for every time I said my next truck will be an automatic. Driving for 20 years and haven't had one yet. Maybe the next one...
P.S. I like the roof mount in the Scion idea.

It looks like you got it mounted! I have a '94 Ram 1500 and I just mounted mine to the dash for now...good solid plastic. Once I get some more gear, I'm going to fabricate a mount that looks similar to a laptop stand. You could use a threaded base and a threaded pipe to make a stand part, then fasten the radio bracket(s) to the pipe. There are several links out on the Internet for companies that make those, which you can make a copy of yourself. Your mounting looks like it should be appropriate for what ya want to do. Nice!

Yeah that looks pretty good, just make sure the radio has a little padding around it or a snug fit. My buddy ruined his radio like that b/c over time all the vibration doesn't far well with the galaxy...Well he didn't ruin the radio but had to have it serviced again. Looks great though
