We are friends but we really don't get along that well, I was thinking if every member sent me a quarter, I could get it and maybe give a full report on it. haha!
Re: Tube amp
I don't think I'd have as much trouble coming up with the purchase price, as I would the monthly electric bill! Oh well...

Re: Tube amp
if you have a good antenna way up there, all you will ever need would be about 600 maybe 700 watts to talk as far as anybody could talk back to you. I use a henry 1kd 5 and everyone i hear, hears me. 10 through 80 meters. I'm getting 550 on 10 meter and 1000 on 80. and thats 110 volts. it really like 220. The antenna is about 80' up. So being able to talk as far as people can talk back to you is not that far out of reach, and i can still play the light bill I will say the guys that live a within a mile that have radios wish i wouldn't but i can take them out of a conversation, and they're closer to the other radios than i am. I'm not one but all the cb rambos hate me.

I agree with Afrokid. I have read on this Forum sooo many times about amps when a good legal antenna will benefit you much more in the long run. Just my opinion.

Well, power does carry with it sort of an illusion. Going from 4 watts to 100, you'd think from a simplistic view that you'd have 25x the range, but in reality it is 25x the power, but only a few more miles and a 2.5 s-units or so. Take that up a notch or 2, and from 600 watts you have to go to 2400 to really see a difference, and after that 10kw, rock star territory. Antenna improvement is the biggest result getter. You can have several kw but if you're still in vertical omnidirectional antenna land, you're gonna be in the weeds when some dude with 500 watts on a beam gets in there, all else being equal. I've had way more fun in skipland with 4 elements at 40 feet and 100 watts than I've had with a kw on a vertical. Now the kw on the vertical is a fun local setup but in skipland it is not focused for performance, as most of your signal is going in an undesired direction and the vertical omni pulls into the receive all of that unwanted stuff, like mexico in my case. I love talking to mexico, but not when I'm trying to hear a friend in Georgia.
I've got a local here in the center of town that thinks he's got a big station- and he does- a multi element beam and a claimed 700 watts. It works great in one direction, but a mild mobile can cut him off in all other directions, and he doesn't have an omni antenna. There is no way you'll own the town being in the middle with just a beam. The locals will attack you like a giant that falls asleep on a bed of fire ants. By the time the giant wakes up, the ants have the advantage. 500 ants, 2 hands, do the math.
