Browning MK|| Receiver problem
I have a MK2 receiver that smokes a 2.2k half resistor,it's in the B+ line and one end to pin 6 on V10 the 6AQ5, thru a 50 volt 5mfd electrolytic cap.Any ideas why the resirtor is smoking every time i turn her on? Resistor value is 1/2 watt.but she will do the same thing with a 1 watt resistor installed. Any sugestions are appreciated TNX. Warlock35po

Re: Browning MK|| Receiver problem
Check the cap to see if its shorted,if no Pull the 6AQ5 to see if problem goes away

Re: Browning MK|| Receiver problem
Thanks Joe,for the advice as it turns out the problem was partly related to the cap ie wrong value and installed backwards.Also there was a B+ voltage problem that was traced to a bad conection on the control socket.Now im working on the xmtr,which has only a miniscule amount of RF output, i mean milliwatts.Tubes are good and is on freq,any ideas other than mistuned plate load? TNX for your interest Warlock35po

Re: Browning MK|| Receiver problem
Hello,
If the output tank circuit won't resonant the the plate current on the final will be excessive, check output tank components including the plate blocking capacitor. If there is no or little final plate current ............. Check to see if the screen voltage, plate voltage and control bias are correct on the final

Also make sure you have drive signal to the final

Re: Browning MK|| Receiver problem
Hello Joe,I have no plate voltage on the final so i'm not going to get anywhere until i can figure out whats going on there.I don't pretend to know much about it and without a schematic all i can do is probe around and try to find B+ somewhere and follow it. The Xmtr is one that has the antena and plate load on the back, not the left hand side it has a fine tune on front and 3 position switch marked Fixed,Manual and Brodband,Also a tuning slug on side accesed through a hole in the case to tune the Fixed mode,sounds like an early version. Any help or ideas are appreciated Regards Warlock35po

Warlock35po,
You either have a power high voltage supply problem or a open component that feeds the plate of your final.....plate choke, resistor etc
Very carefully check to see if there is voltage across the filter capacitor in the high voltage power supply. You should be able to down load a schematic
