hello hopefully someone can help. i have a golden eagle mk 4a, transmits and recieves fine, but when i tune the reciever to the channel the transmit is on, there is a noise thru the speaker and the meter goes up and pins, as if the transmitter is transmitting even when its not and its being recieved by the reciever . any suggestions? thanks

Seems like the spot switch is staying engaged.

no the switch is fine, inspected it with a magnifying glass. another clue may be that the modj meter is staying pinned when the meter selector is on modj. it goes down to normal on the other switch settings. lets say the transmit is on channel 1, as i tune the receiver toward 1, the recieve needle bounces and it picks up wierd noises. when i hit channel 1, the needle goes up high and the recieve is silent, as if a deadkey is being broadcasted into it. yet nothing outgoing on the wattmeter, and happens with mic unattached. 2zero9

Check the spot button again , turn off and unplug radio, use a DVOM to check the operation of the switchwhen pressed and released to see if it opens and closes or stays closed all the time. If thats not it maybe something is exposed or touching in that circuit. Also suggest using a good tube tester to test all tubes in the transmitter and receiver. Good Luck

Just a shot in the dark, but the relay contacts can get sticky and burnt and do all manner of weird and not so wonderful things, might be worth alook. Warlock35po

Hi 209 first class

I would double check the relay. It may look good but the receive contacts may not be disconnecting in the transmit mode.

Is there a resistor on the transmitter circuit board getting hot and discolored?
