OUT DOOR CONNECTIONS

#289599

Post by wild_card »

What would be a good way to protect the coax connections from the elements here in minnesota mainly the one from the coax to the antenna at the top of my tower ? can a guy use dielectric greese in the fitting or wrap electrical tape around the connection or some type of removable puddy ? just trying to keep moisture out ect , with being able to get the connection loose again if needed for future repairs and stuff ... thanks

Google "coax seal". That's what it's made for, lots of places carry it.

There are two basic ways of going about that weather proofing. One is to seal things from the inside, the other is to seal things from the outside. The 'outside' way is probably the easiest and the most common. There's stuff used to inject into the connectors that displaces air/moisture. Don't ask the name of it, I can't remember. It isn't cheap and/or easy to use so I don't. None of those methods are absolutely fool proof, so just do the best that you can think of.

I use the coax seal and shrink tubing over the top of it, haven't had any problems.
