PC66 Power Supply Question

#290126

Post by meshif »

Hey all. Just got a hell of a deal on a Uniden PC66. The only problem is that it didn't come with a power supply. Would I be able to power this radio with a 12V/18A power supply? Not gonna leave it like this long term but I want to make sure the radio works and see if it hears any better than my handheld.

Thanks

That radio only needs a few amps, lke 3, to run, so a bigger power supply is fine as long as it is within the 12-13.8 ballpark and regulated so it doesn't hum. The antenna system will largely determine your range after that.

Sweet deal. Here's hoping it works. $10 for the radio and a little mag mount antenna so no big deal if it's DoA :D.

drdx hit the nail on the head. that power supply would probably power a high power export radio. i ran a 148gtl off a 5a for a while.

Well I got it on and everything seems to work except for the swr meter but that's no big deal. Other than that though, everything seems to be working pretty good. This is one of the older models made in the Philippines and from what I have read on here, it should prove to be a pretty good radio. Thanks drdx and linx for the info.
