where to mount in 90 (87-91) f150
Any one know a good place to mount a cb in a 90 f150 or any other ford pickup with that same interior, 87-91 f150-f350. overhead mounting and on the dash are out of the picture, thanks

manveru,
What it amounts to basically is where would it suit you to have the radio with the least amount of inconvenience. You will have to 'put up' with some inconvenience, about the only option you have is to make it as 'livable' as you can.
I can't say I don't agree with not using the top of the dash or 'hanging' the thing from the ceiling, they both have draw-backs such as heat and having something 'in your face', sort of. How about -in- the dash? Is there something you might remove to make space for that radio? Or under the dash? Considering the 'style' of most newer vehicles that can be not the easiest place to put anything, much less a radio. And then there's always just in front of a seat, or in a console. Both of those places can be inconvenient too.
Nothing you haven't already considered, right? Well, probably everyone else has been in the same position so don't feel too lonely.
Best suggestion I can think of is to pick a spot where you think you may want that radio, make a support for it, and put it there. See how it works out. Don't like it? Change it. The next 'best' suggestion is to put it somewhere that doesn't require huge contortions to reach it and/or see the knobs to do any adjusting.
Convenience always has a 'price'. If you can put up with, or afford that 'price', good! If not, then keep looking. If you ever find -THE- best place to put a radio, please tell me too!
Good luck.

well i think i'll just mount it to the ash tray, and then brace it to the floor because i don't think the ash tray can take the weight of a cobra 29 for long. In dash won't really work because all thats in the dash is the heater controls and the radio, so that leaves my options as on dash, overhead, and to the ash tray.

Hey..
Depending on how much room you have on the 'hump' between the seats and dashboard, I made a box the same width as my Cobra 29 LTD and high enough to match the heighth of the seat angling the top of the box so that the radio would be tilted back.
I also added an external speaker in the box and facing out.
Add some velcro to the bottom of the box to help it from sliding and you're good to go.
Works for me.

Cobra 29 huh? Well it just so happens that I have a 1990 F-150 with a CB. I mounted mine underneath the steering wheel. Its on the plastic panel that has four plastic screw to the right locks. I mean the plastic panel that has the fuse panel fuse locations on it. I mounted my Midland 77-882 on it. works real good. I guess it depends on how long your legs are. I have my amp mounted under the ash tray.

I had a radio in my 89 F150. It was about the same size as a Cobra 29. I put it under tha ashtray like you are saying but I cut my bracket in half so I had 2 "L" shaped pieces. I then installed the 2 halves of the bracket to the radio so the top parts were sticking outwards and that let me screw the mount to the plastic panel on either side of the ashtray. I had it there for years with no problem.
