Instead of 'break' you can say 'qsk' if you are trying to break into a

preacherman what is the 'qsk' how would you say that? would you say Q-S-K or is it a work and if so what is the way to pronounce it? just wondering

You just say the letters with no pause in between. So when you want to ask for a break just say the letters in sequence and then unkey and wait for a response.

Also, it is considered "good etiquette" to leave a pause between the time the party you are talking to unkeys and you key up. This will give enough time for anyone to throw a QSK, or sometimes their number, in to say they would like to join the conversation.

Adding a SSB capable CB radio doesn't change anything. All will work just fine.

Thanks, Nagant,

I can dig that you get a better range w/ SSB, but when you really need to get someone just seems to me in a rural area 19 may be the best way to pick someone up, are their that many listeners to whatever a general side band channel is?

Operators that use SSB vary by locality. In general it's usually easier to find someone local on AM, such as channel 19 as you mentioned, than on SSB in the majority of areas. I use it for DX more than anything as there is only one other person in our area that uses SSB and he uses it for DX as well.
