When setting up a base is there a certain length of coax you should not try and exceed ? Does coax length affect anything ?

Type depends on how long. How long depends on type! Theres always a right coax for a certain length.

YOU SHOULD BE GOOD WITH THAT NUMBER

If your not planning on running 1000+ watts RG8X is fine! RG8 is better, 213 is even better, 9913 is expensive and it goes on and on!
