Hey All,

I just bought a used 23 channel SSB Cobra 139 base satation. It's got upper and lower sideband.
since it seems to be only a 23, are there many who use sideband besides being on channel 38?

Not much SSB use below channel 36 here in the U.S. I'd think of it as an AM radio unless you want to go to the trouble and expense of adding a VFO or some other channel mod to get it to the upper end of CB. I wouldn't go that far with it personally. It is what it is and enjoy the old radio as such.

Channel 16 was the popular sideband channel long ago, on LSB, you may want to try there when the skip is rolling. I've recently heard a few people are on there in certain parts of the country.

Nope. Back in the day 15-17 LSB were popular with 16 being the most used. Alot of folks would replace the crystal that was used for channels 1-4
to get 36, 37, 38, and 40. (39 got skipped because of the skip for channel "3A")

I've heard some SSB skip on 16 or 18 recently, can't remember which.
