I have a Mobile Radio...Cobra 19 Gtl and a Cobra 19 plus..both Equal in Power...a 13.8 volt Power supply...and i run RG-8u big black coax..on the Antron a99...about 10 foot off the ground...with great results...on another setup the Cobra 19 plus..i built a Homemade 102" wire antenna..using ground stakes and wire radials...the 102" does about half of what the Antron a99 does...receiving half the noise and skip and locals with numbers slightly lower...the Antron has a gain of 9.9 dbi(as advertised) my 102" gain ???? what is the gain of a proper 102" whip rated? here is what i did using the ERP calculator on here...i estimated my homemade 102" to be 2.5 dbi...and the Truthful DBI GAIN OF the ANTRON A99 to be 5.5 dbi...by using wattage and output figures..watts X gain etc... i worked on this for 1 hour...so i guessed this or came to this conclusion...
102 inch whip==about 2.5 or 3 dbi
18 foot solarcon A99== about 5.5 dbi up to 7 dbi(real number) not 9.9...some one who truthfully knows tell me if i am close???
