Mobile setup
Hi all,
when using a 102" whip does the SWR change that much when on the e'way (speeds of 70mph)?
Is a fiberglass whip (8' Francis) a better way to go?
Is a 6" spring needed when using a 102" whip in most installations?
I want to mount the whip on the top of the bed rail on my pick-up.....
Thank you

SWR will change as the antenna aspect changes in relation to its ground.
Fiberglass whips do the same thing but dont RX TX as well
Originally the SS Whip needed the extra inches from a spring to get the proper length for SWR and the wave.
Use caution on where you mount a Stainless Steel whip as it gets its name from what it does, It whips around. It can hit anything in the way like the cab. We used to use a tennis ball "back in the day" to keep the whip from grounding on the body ( Bad ) and Damaging paint.

We said 10K! LOL, Just Kidding. Dan (Coily) is a great guy, and builds a great antenna. He knows Im a fan of the 10K (we just spoke 2 days ago about it) but both antennas TALK PHAT! But Im a 10K guy as far as mobile antennas go. The comp double coil is awesome, and the base antenna is phat, but mobiles for me.........its a 10K world!
Ok Bob, I'm old school, and wanted an antenna that didn't stick out like a sore thumb, hence the Wilson magnet mount on my Minivan, but I didn't like the performance, so today I install the 10K single coil,,,,and Wow,,,what a difference, I talked to a base station about 30 miles away barefoot, couldn't even come close to that with the Wilson,,,not knocking a Wilson, they are good, but a 10K is great, looks funny on my grocery getter!! With a SWP radio, you would wake it up for sure!!

The tri-mag I bought came with an antenna mount, and coax, cheap coax, but I don't run big watts in my van, I looked at single mag mounts but worried about them blowing off at high speeds, this tri mount doesn't even think about moving
