I would say a bad ground or loose connection somewhere. Is every thing installed the same way as the fist time you had it hooked up ?

I had a friend that had a problem like that. He had a cobra 128 ssb and when ever he hooked it into his truck, there would be a load whine when he unkeyed the mic. I bought the radio from him and it worked fine. I would check the ground to the antenna. That is what seamed to be wrong with his radio.

If you are re-installing, did this radio ever do that before? If not, what are you doing different than with the last radio? Or, what has been changed with the 98VHP? A ground can certainly be the problem but there might be other problems too. So, what's different?
