You shouldn't have any problem with the height on your Taurus. I have a Wilson 5000 mag mount on the roof of my 2003 Ford Ranger. It hits tree limbs all the time and never has a problem. The tip of the antenna is up at around 12 feet give or takea few inches. On the trunk should be more than fine.
I'm running a Wilson 5000 mag mount on the roof of my Tahoe and don't whack that many branches except right after a rain and the branches are sagging. Take out a squirrel now and then , but, what the heck!
Seriously, you'd be surprised on how un-noticeable that antenna can be. In an open area, you really don't notice it. Now, put a 10K up there and you've got an antenna that's hard to miss.
The only real noticeable part of the 5000 would be the bottom plastic thing where the coil is and its only a few inches tall anyways. You can't even really see the whip unless you painted it neon orange or something. lol
Boy you guys just talked me right into an antenna too! haha
Alright, next thing for me to figure out. Would it make much of a performance difference between the trunk mount and the roof mount (magmount)? We're talking the Wilson 5k here.
Seriously, the trunk mount would make me less likely to have to remove it before going into parking garages. But would the trunk mount sacrifice performance THAT much?
run what you feel comfortable with.. youl still pound with the radio that Mike hooks you up with.. I would go with it on the roof ,trunk will still be ok. Flirt with the set up when you get it. Just make sure SWR's are within spec.
Oh man! I ran into a trucker today with a Stryker 440! I got to talking to him and found out we were about 2-3 miles apart. He sounded like he was right next to me. He said I sounded damn good too (don't know about that, though, considering my current setup). Then when I found out what he was on, I got anxious again. Now I'm even more stoked to get my Stryker! l :06-70pun:
