Talk-Back on Cobra 29 Black Chrome

#277078

Post by jessejamesdallas »

On my Cobra 29 Black Chrome the Talk-Back is not very loud, even when turned all the way up...Does anyone know if there is something that can be adjusted inside to bring the volume on the talk back up? A pod or something...

I've been looking on CB Tricks, but haven't found anything yet...

Is this the schematic you were looking at on cb tricks?

What it looks like from the schematic is that either VR7 or VR8 is the talkback control on the front panel and the other one is the fine tune adjustment in the radio. The schematic doesn't show which one is which.

You'll have to see which one is marked on the board in the radio and that should increase the TB level. R21 a fixed 91 ohm resistor could also be jumpered which would increase the volume of the TB.

Yeah I know...Sorta like the toss of a coin to figure out which is which! Was hoping someone else had already tossed the coin!

OK...Figured it out thanks to a link from Frogman...Had to solder a jumper across R21 and R77...Too easy! Works like a champ now, and even with the AMP's on there is No squeal, unless I turn the Talk-Back all the way up. Which is great!

Here's the link if anyone else needs this done.

I'm an old Newbie but what is talk back used for. I just got a Cobra 29XL but don't know what to use talkback for. I can't even find it in my manual! Ron

Talkback is good for setting gain on a power mic, or setting echo and that's about it.

Also nice for monitoring over all transmission quality long term in case you develop a problem, such as a Mic key getting dirty and scratchy, you will hear it vs. people telling you or maybe not telling you, if you develop any feed back issues, as was the case with one radio I had, by turning back the RF Gain on the radio while talking it cut my feed back on an old Connex 4300... Strange but it worked, as RF Gain for some reason was interfering well I was transmitting...

I also like using another radio to monitor, as it will give you an idea of output at the Antenna, after the signal leaves the radio, and passes through the Amplifier, you can hear the signal in it's truest form as long as your not getting to much front end over load from the receiver you are using to listen...

Talk back when used properly can be a useful tool...
Stryker 497HPC/Texas Star Sweet 16/K-40 Coily Antenna's
Yaesu FT 101EE/Alpha (2) 4CX1000's/8 Element beam Flat Side
8 Antenna's in all covering 160-2 Meter

The Pics below give the rest of the story...

Just a "FYI" since this thread was brought back up...The link I posted earlier for the Mod on the Cobra 29 Chrome, also works on the New Cobra 29 LX models and all other Cobra radios that have Talk-Back...
