What are good 11m SSB radios to use.
I need some help please - What are some good 11m SSB radios that can also be used on UK40FM.
I have a problem that i'm sure lots & lots of other people have the same problem & i was hoping someone can help me...
In my town, there are people I've known for years who are all on the CB & i've known & spoken to them for years. Some of them have modified 11m SSB radios to get on the UK40, but quite a few of them do not run a SSB radio but just a standard UK40 \ CEPT rig.
I need an 11m radio on which I can go on SSB when the skip is right for it, & then when I'm finished, I can flick to the UK40 & chat to my friends in my town.
It would be good to have a nice CLEAN UN-MODIFIED radio that did it all
What are some good radios to have the best of both worlds... SSB and UK40 ?
For example...
Does the Superstar 3900, have a variable KC like my Ham International Concorde II does?
If so... what about a 3900 with a frequency counter? Or the 3900 with the frequency counter built in?
I don't know the Superstar at all except that it's a Uniden board & my Ham is a Cybernet board. I've had a Ham International Concorde II for the last 17 years.
Can anyone help...?

I assume that by "UK40FM" you are referring to 27/81? In that case, there are none of the '10m radios' that support that, due to the 27/81 channels being placed high in the 27MHz portion of the band and their weird, silly channel offsets. There might be some EU specific radios that might support it, but since 27/81 is being phased out (from what I've read - I live in Arizona USA), I don't think that number will be very big.
Ignorance can be fixed. Stupid will present a special challenge!

Hey Flyer,
I've been working SSB for 35 years, and the radio that has served me the best, is the Yaesu FT-101. By installing the extra 11 meter crystals, you can go way below 1, and up to the bottom of 28mhz band. The tubes are easy to find, and inexpensive. Mine will modulate 100+ watts anywhere you go. These tube type radios have a punch, and audio, that other radio lack. You can find these radio in good working shape for around $200.00 or so. You asked, and I thought I'd give you my opinon.

I love my old Yaesu 101E, but where are these inexpensive 6JS6C's?? 100w on SSB if it's pushed to the max, around 40w on AM, the audio is crystal clear though. This radio can be a challenge, it's not for "beginners".

Check out the President Jackson 2 - multi-standard EU rig , select UK and it will work on 27/81. Select Russian (IIRC), and it "opens up" and SSB becomes available.

You can not go wrong with the Yaesu. The frequency stability is unbeatable, they do not drift.

Most modified Ham Radios will sound good on SSB....but most of them do not shine on FM and Espacially AM.

Re: What are good 11m SSB radios to use.
Why not search Ebay for a nice Yaesu FT100D or Icom 706.They are not that expensive, easy to reprogram for 11 meter use,100+ watts easily and work outstanding on SSB. You would need an AM filter for AM but other than that...If i were wanting a killer SSB radio for 11 meters then that's what i would do. I had one and sold it in a moment of stupidity and i have kicked myself ever since!
You will never find any CB/export radio that will match a ham rig in performance!
Oh and as far as the big expensive tube for a FT 101EE,as long as your not hard on the radio and dont try to push it for every last watt you can get then that tube will last for years! I had two of them that still had the original tubes in them and they both did 100+ watts.
