I have both. I love both of them . When tune properly , They talk great on SSB and AM. The stock Mic seems to work the best. Just watch who have tune one , Not every Tech can properly work on these radios , With the SMT boards.

I noticed some buttons on the mic I saw in the pictures. What do the buttons do? I also noticed a scan button on the radio. Can you set frequencies to scan? If yes, how does that work when transmitting? If the radio is scanning and stops to play someone's transmission, if you key down, will it be on the same frequency you were just listening to or a predeined channel?

I bet the buttons on the mic are for changing channels. My 2995 DX stock mic came with channel buttons on top of the mic.

LOL, 2950 and 2970 are some of the best am/ssb radios on the market. 1000000000% true on the SMT. SMT is hard to work on, more techs screw up SMT costing the user a huge bill, and massive headache!

Many of the features of this radio change after its modified to a cb radio. It maintains nb/anl button, r beep button, dim button, the lock becomes your VFO/CB mode button, maybe BobO can chime in I cant remember if current models scan after they are modified. I believe with the squelch up they will scan still. His 2995 is the same radio in a big box.

Prob the best ssb radios on the planet for the price range.

The scan button does work on the 2950/70 after the 11 meter conversion. The 2950/70 can hold 10 channels in its memory to scan. When the scan featured is in operation and picks up a channel and you key on that channel the scan operation is stopped. The scan works when you turn the squelch up to deaden the noise and press scan. The buttons on the mic is channel up and down. Ive own mine for 3 years and have had no problems at all. It will hold its own with any Export on the market. I run the 2970 on base with a power supply and the 2950 in the mobile with a helper.

Yep, the scan still works. The manual says to turn up the squelch any time you do a scan. It'll stop on any busy channel that breaks the squelch. works on AM too as long as you are looking at the frequencies instead of the channel numbers.
