Is there no audio on transmit or just a hum with the audio?
If there is no audio a tube would be suspect.
crazy_cooter wrote:The radio keys up and has good power with the factory banana mike, but has a humming noise in the transmitter when keyed.
If your getting proper power output but a hum with the audio I would check the 40uf HV filter capacitors C61A,B and C also C62 and also check the HV rectifiers SR-2 and SR-3 used in the voltage doulbler for the high voltage.
I did forget to mention that when the transmitter "spot tune" is pressed, it makes a hum or buzz noise through the receivers speaker. It never used to do that. It does this with or without a mic connected to the radio.

Another new ..or previous unknown problem pop up.
Youre thinking "MAN !!!!" why me. :|

But ..thats a blessing in disguise my friend

You have to analyize what circuits come in to play when you SPOT TUNE

I'm pretty sure that the Transmitter sends out some low-Level RF to the receiver when you press SPOT TUNE .

I would press SPOT TUNE ..and tune another CB you have there to your SPOT TUNE channel...and see what it sounds like on another radio.

I could be wrong about this ..hope the experts here dont slamm me for it.

Good Luck !

I almost forgot to update this thread and let everyone in on what had happened to this radio........absolutely nothing! For some odd reason I had two mics go bad on me in one shot, and both the issues were kinda hard to pinpoint. The factory banana mic had a bent contact causing the radio to buzz when keyed. The D-104 G-stand is still undetermined as to why it keyed the radio on its own. I'll look into that later. But the radio operates fine, and works like it normally did.

Glad to hear it was only a mic issue. Man microphone internals, the cords, and plugs can be such a nightmare sometimes to nail down as the problem espceially when you hav more than one mic for the same radio with issues.

I had some of the same issues with my mark III just a few things to look at. Take the bottom off the case of the of your reciever and check the socket on the 8 pin plug unplug it and plug it back in and see if any of the pin push back out in the radio. Do the same with the transmitter only this time it will be your mike socket those pins will do the same and break loose and push back in the radio. Just a suggestion fixed most of my issues, but mine is not in nearly as good a shape as the one in the pics. Sometimes it can be the simple things you would not think about.

Hey thanks for the advice 355. I did what you suggested, all the pins were pretty snug in their locations and none pushed backwards. The radio is working very well now, and I am tickled sh!^less! It is by far my best radio for shooting skip when it is paired up with my old D&A Phantom. I see you run a Mark III yourself. How do you like it?
