Grounded

OK I did what some of You suggested. I removed the black wire off my Battery terminal and kept it to about a foot. I lifted the carpet in my Wrangler and cleaned a spot on the floor under the carpet. The floor is all steel. After cleaning the paint off both the inside and under the vehicle I drilled a 5/16th hole and attached the #10 wire to the bolt with a crimped eye I tightented everything with a lock washer and doublenutted it to insure it stays tight. Then I coated everything with a sprayable primer. I also eliminated the toggle switch and ran the positive from the battery right to the radio. Do You think I should recheck my SWR's? I had it down to 1.1 on channel 1 and 40. How does all this sound? Now if only I can get my noise toy/ recorder to work without all the feedback

Do you have one of the peat repeat modules? I have 2 different radios with them and they will squeal if it isn't adjusted right. If you have the same module it will have an input and output gain adjustment. The guy at the local CB shop told me to use a small capacitor inline between the speaker + and the module. The capacitor helped but I also had to use a resistor in the audio wire that connects to the mic socket. I only needed the resistor on my Magnum S9, the 95t works fine without one.

Double check the swr. I've found out that noise toys don't like high swr/reflect.

The 1.1 is "OK" but I'd probably keep messing with it myself. You can probably get it down to 1.0 if you keep trying. Sounds like the wiring setup is pretty sound.

I don't mess with the 'toys anymore because I've found they're often more trouble than they're worth. Can't help you much there.

Sounds like a good setup.

forcheck,
If your SWR is 1.1:1, then quit worrying about it, that's very, very good. There will be no perceivable, or practical difference between a 1.1:1 and a 1:1, or an 1.5:1 for that matter.
How the primary power is supplied to the radio has no effect on SWR. It's a good idea to use the size of wire to supply the required current drawn by the radio (and any accessories connected to that radio), and a switch in the (+) to control the on/off can certainly be handy. Just remember to turn the thing off, right? It's also a very good idea to use the proper size fuse in that power line if you aren't doing so already.
From what you've said here, and the other thread, what you have is about as good as it's ever going to be. Enjoy it.

sounds like you are set and ready to go. Like Doc says, your SWR is perfect. Only time to get really worried about a perfect SWR is if you are running HUGE power or like to be long on the key. That means your one of those whom tells whole life story every other mile! lol FYI, All SWR is basically is heat. Thats how a meter knows how to "read" it. Enjoy your rig! see ya

SWR is not heat.

SWR is an efficiency measurement of the transmitted power vs. the reflected power.

"SWR is not heat.

... Which is determined (and defined) by the impedance match. Which is the whole reason for using an SWR meter, even if it is a really 'dumb' animal.

Just saying that's a pretty big stretch to equate SWR to heat!

I know the theory well!

When my SWR's run high, i remove the static ball on top of the ant. and pour some of the SWR's out...But be careful, sometimes late night trucking, i have had the squelch monsters come after me!!!!! :batman:
Now that i've put in my .02 cents, I'm broke!!!

As we all know SWR is measurement of reflected energy/power. Reflected Energy/power is too converted to heat. What happens to most components when you have a high SWR? They heat up. Thats why I say SWR is "basically heat". Research SWR and heat. You may find some other folks who make the "stretch" with me.

If your antenna is mounted with the coil below the cab. :icon_e_wink:
