8950 Tubes

#330733

Post by Whiskey Man »

I'm trying to check these tubes on my Sencore TC 142 - Mighty Mite 5 tester but they are not in the tube manual. I guess the tester is older than the tubes. When googled, I come up with using settings for a 6LF6 but on 12v setting. When I use this set up the tube shows a short so I don't know if it's the tube or setting. Any ideas on how to check this tube with this tester?

The specs for the 8950 and 6LF6 are the same the only difference is the filament voltage used to heat the tube 12.6 volts for the 8950 and 6.3 volts for the 6LF6 that's why it said to use the 12 volt setting so most likely the 8950 does have a short.

So then being the dummy that I am when it comes to tubes, what would be the out come of running an amp with a shorted tube? I haven't checked the others yet but man it puts out the watts.

If the tube has a short first it's not going to work you might as well not plug anything into the tube socket also you might see a fireworks display as the tube or the circuit connected to it goes up in smoke.

What amp are you running? You don't want to install a shorted tube, makes for a lot of excitement.
