Modulation Problem

I have a RCI 6900F150 and it seems I have a modulation problem? I bought a Solarcon HP5000 meter and on modulation it says it has 2 colors of light. Green is ok and red there's a problem. On am I am ok but on ssb it turns red. Can anyone give me an idea of what the problem might be? Any help would be appreciated

dont trip on ssb everythign backasswords, modulation work in a totaly differnt way, see on am you have a carrier then its back up by your modulation, but on ssb your modulation is your carrier, so your meaters gonna go haywire along with your swr's lol. on my uniden grant i have two notches set on my mic gain, 1 for am and one below that for ssb. so crank your mic gain down a hair and you'll be fine.
