im having huge static problems with mine as well though i have a 98 blazer (s-10) and its 5lbs of static all day long ??

Truck on or off dosent make much of a difference usually.its powerd througj the cig lighter still. I im getting around 5/7 pounds of static -_- .

By static i mean i dont belive its recieving like it should.unless the guy is within 5/7 miles i cant get ahold of him and i can barely hear him unless hes running a foot warmer. iknow for sure it can do much better than that stock. Espically with a 9 foot antenna!

I would think that you should be able to do better than 5 or 7 miles, can't say why you aren't though, lot's of things can affect what you are hearing or how you are heard. Something around an 'S' 5 is about normal for around here, not really all that high. We aren't using the same radio and antenna though.
Does the time of day make any difference?

yes it does but not always. sometimes ill come home and its reading 1 and 5 minutes later it will be blowing 5.
