I have the chance to purchase a Pierce-Simpson radio for about $20.00. It looks like an old base station. Not even sure if it works or not but the lady at the antique mall is a friend and she said it did.
Are the old pierce-simpsons good radios or should I keep looking?
What would I be looking at as far as getting it worked on?
I have heard a lot about old "tube type" radios. How do you tell if this is one of those radios?
I cannot really remeber the model name but it was something wierd that I have never heard of before.

If its a solid state radio, I can remember about 3 models,,Pierce Simpson Simba SSB,,"PUSSYCAT 23" BASE STATION,,Bearcat base station....the Bearcat cost in 1976 was about $335,,,one fine radio,,,Simba SSB cost a few dollars more,,,both had dual meters,,,,,the Pussycat was the cheapest of the 3,,,but still was over $200 in 76,,single meter in that model,,now find someone to work on these ,,, Start by calling a couple of sponsors,,,,it will take an old school tech as everything has changed as far as electronics,,,and many parts will be hard to find, if it doesn't work call Sparky's CB Shack as Al is an old school tech......that company made a neat Gladding Islander Direction Finder Radio.This was a 6 Band Shortwave Radio,,,,I know I' showing my age now,,,LOL
