It would just depend on if your radio can do 100% modulation without a power mic or not. If you can get 100% mod with a none power mic you are fine, but if the radio will only reach say 70 to 80% modulation on a stock mic, then a power mic will help you out. I prefer a none power mic as it will not pick up as much background noise. But there are some who will only use power mic, it all in preference mostly.
It ain't broke till you smell the smoke

If I have the correct information for that microphone it should have 4 wires White, Red, Blue, Black and a Shield for the GE the wiring would be
1. Red
2. White and Shield
3. Blue
4. Black

What I would suggest after it's wired up is to get on the air and get an audio report comparing it to the stock mic and decide for yourself.

Hello 624LeadFoot,
Welcome to the forum. Your radio has the same board as the GE Superbase, there is a lot you can do to it. A mild peak and tune will make it come alive and the addition of the mic is a great help.

When I use a power mic on ssb, I turn the mic gain down until it stop pegging the meter. My 2000 is setup on AM at full gain and I turn the mic up, with the help of a local, so it sounds best.

I recently purchased a 959 with a stock mice and it was ok, but I also have a power mic I had for my 99v and plugged it in the 959 and it was so much louder then the stock one I just turned the talk back way down, so far no feed back problems..I do miss the echo, but not much..
