A good station always starts with a good antenna system IMO. The big strappers seldom run a ground plane at 30' (unless they are on the top of a mountain). Starting with a decent beam 60' + to the boom would be a good start. A good modulating radio (even a mobile) would work from there.

Just my $.02

I agree, Antenna is the place to start. Its all money from there. How much are you willing to put down to lock down the town ? Mobile or base ? Remember that there are a lot of truckers running high power ! Just when you think you are king of the hill, along comes someone else with more power.

Well, for a power supply get an Astron. They are by far the best.

As for an amp, its all a matter of personal preferance as to which company you would like to buy from. Can't go wrong with any of the big name amps. Davemade, Eastcoast, Fatboy, X Force...

I would get a nice amp to put behind that cobra 2000GTL them are slick radios and really talk the talk. Just my opinion I dont think you need to replace the radio just look for more power  lol

Contact one of these Cotton Choppas on here about a dc power supply BUILT to run an amp. The Astron and similar supplies are NOT designed to hold up to the abuse running an amp will be putting on them. Fatboy, Skywalker, and X-Force ALL make a good base dc power supply that will meet your needs and hold up to the abuse of those long keys and high amperage demands you get when running mobile amps in the house.

Check the links at the bottom... FatBoy, Skywalker, East Coast, and X-Force ALL sell an excellent power supply for running your mobile amp in the house. These supplies are MADE to run mobile amps on house current! Good thing about buying one or theirs, if you do decide to upgrade to an even bigger amp later, these supplies will run it without fail as long as you stay within their recommended limits.

A 100 amp supply should be able to run a 1 driving 4 no probs, and 140 to 150 amps should run up to an 8 pill. Buy what's within your budget, but if you're like me, I like to think ahead too. I hate buying something, upgrading my equipment, then finding out what I bought isn't enough for what i've upgraded to.

From what I see, Fatboy and East Coast seem to be the least expensive, followed by Skywalker and X-Force.
