Re: newb question about power mics and amps
Power Mic's just amplifies your modulation...has nothing to do with your DK...If your radio has a knob called "RF Power" or "Variable Power" that will lower or raise your DK...Otherwise your DK will need to be adjusted inside the radio.snowshoe wrote:Does a power mic like the road devil increase your

Do not argue with an idiot. He will drag you down to his level and beat you with experience.

When setting your DK you should have no modulation at all.

No but if it does rf is probably getting into the mic and making your radio squeal. This usually isn't the microphone's fault but something wrong with your antenna system or another piece of equipment.snowshoe wrote:Does a power mic like the road devil increase your

Re: newb question about power mics and amps
I'm far from an expert, and barely getting knowlegable, but I believe all the tranceivers come from the factory with modulation limiters (by FCC regulations) anyway. Power mic is good if your factory mic has low modulation, but if you overdrive the audio into CB trying to get too much more peak modulation power, the limiter kicks in and just makes you sound bad. You'd have to disable the ALC (automatic limiter circuit) to really peak up the positive audio envelope. A linear should not be a problem unless you overdrive its input with too much power.

Re: newb question about power mics and amps
THANKS ALL.. so my radio (president lincoln 2) has a 6 pin config. pin #6 is hot wired to 13.4 volts i believe...Are all 6 pin mics wired this way or does a six wire mic have to be wired specifically
for the Lincoln 2???..my stock mike has ceased working(25 below zero and bad strain relief) .i am going to look for loose wires in the micro jack...but am thinking of upgrading..
I have tried to research replacement mics for this radio but only seem top come up with the liberty...which is nice but not really what i want...all that bluetooth and built in speaker and lots of other new technology .Just seems like a train wreck waiting to happen..LOL

Re: newb question about power mics and amps
The Bluetooth mics really work well. Better than the stock mic on the uniden 980 anyway. Same mic, different label. All that was needed for mine was to drill out the mic hole a tad. It is a clear clean sounding mic.
Re: newb question about power mics and amps
There has always been a misconception that power mics have to be cranked up to force more modulation out of a radio. Some good sounding microphones happen to be power mics and if you adjust them properly they aren't going to overdrive anything.

No they are not all the same, hooking it up wrong can short out the radio and make it unrepairable.
