Turner JM+3 Q's?
I just picked up a Turner JM+3 that is in fairly decent shape. I've got a couple of questions about it though.
This one came with a dead 6V lithium? battery that was in it when the seller got it.
I did a search and found some posts concerning batteries for the +3's. Some said use the 7.5V; some said you can use the 12V and just run the gain lower.
Which battery is the best one to use for this mic? Or does it make a difference? Either/Or kind of thing?
Also, this mic has a four pin plug on it now. I would like to put a new cord and plug on it (5 pin Cobra); but I want to make sure it works first.
Can I use a 4 pin-to- 5 pin adapter? Mic is 4 pin; radio is 5 pin Cobra.
Oh, I just took the battery cover off to look inside. I can see what appears to be a small red slide-switch in there, just above the battery. What is this switch for?
Thanks in advance for any help you all can offer....

The JM+3's' and M+2u's all used 7v battery's which are hard to find, and can be expencive...You can use the little 12v Garage door opener type batterys which work just fine, and allot cheaper than the 7v's...( you may have to bend the little prongs in the Mic so the battery will make contact)
Another option is to get 5, 1-1/2v button type batterys and tape them together with some electrical tape or shrink wrap...
They sell a 5 pin to 4 pin adapter on fleaBay which will work with those Mic's, I have one I use with a Turner +3 Mic so I can use it with my Cobra 2K...

Hey...
I have some older Turner mics that use these batteries.
Found a few packages of them at the local Dollar store and believe it or not...I found some at a Cell Shack...err Rat Shack.

The original battery is a TR175, 7.5v. You can find them in the photo section of most dept. stores, even at PetSmart in with the dog training collars, decent price there, check the sponsors too. The battery JJD is talking about is the A23, 12v, it's a little shorter so like he said you have to bend the taps in the battery holder, just be careful not to break them.

Yep, got to be careful bending the prongs in those 40 year-old Mic's...they can be a little on the brittle-side...Don't have to bend them much, just don't get carried away doing it with a pair of vise-grips.MDYoungblood wrote:The original battery is a TR175, 7.5v. Re: Turner JM+3 Q's?
I've never had much luck with those adapters. Always ended up with feedback. I just wire em and let them fly. If that is the only radio you plan to run that mic on, I would just wire it for the 5 pin.
