Cobra base station
What base radio did Cobra make the best? (SSB)
The 135? 142? 2000, or 2010? Were there other SSB models?
I assume the 2010's were all junk, and it's tough finding a 2000 that hasn't been modified....
I have a 135 that talks well and shoots skip. A local collector wants to buy it and I'm looking for a good replacement. Or should I just bite the bullet and get an RCI2980. Didn't these have some pcb troubles?

re
Yes, there will be a small amount of fire in the wire! I recently talked with Ft Lauderdale 2 weeks ago, and then 200 miles north of Chicago. With my old cobra 135.
I like the radio but I'm limited with 23 channels (69 total with SSB), and it is sold when ever I'm ready for something else. So I'm wondering.... even tho a 2000 has all the bells and whistles and looks super cool, does it really perform any better than a 135/142/148? Perform as in getting out into skipland and listening ability.
The 148 is the mobile, and from what I have been told (I hope it's all true) that the 2000 was built using the 148 pcb. I have a couple of the old 138's and they are incredible old 23 SSB radio's!!! I believe the 148 grew from the 138. Is a 148GTL mobile also or base? And what do you think?

Wow! that's a great swing!
I am looking for a 2000 if the price is right, but finding one that hasn't been modified can be a real problem.
I talk with a couple guys in the area that had theirs modified, and they over modulate so bad that it's difficult to understand them-they don't have a clean crisp sound.
I also run the variable power, Can you turn the power down on the 2000 if it dead keys too much?
