Cobra 148 GTL Discontinued?

Sad to say.... I first look at a 148GTL to see if it is made in CHINA; if it is.... I will NOT EVEN touch it!

I'm not sorry to see them go. Maybe that they might (fingers crossed) make a better 148GTL in the future?? I will not wait too long for that.

I just exchanged emails with GIJoes, and they no longer can get the now-discontinued 148GTL. They also have heard nothing of the INTL version.

It is just a matter of time, IMHO, before the new SMT 148 hits the shelves. A 980 with a traditional faceplate, I suppose.

Yep, I've seen them, too.

The reason I started this thread is because Cobra has discontinued them; there are still some out there in the pipeline.

The question is, what will replace the 148GTL?

To me there is no comparison. Even a new 2950 is better than that Cobra.

The new 2950 is worse than the old one? The spurious emission engineered into the old 2950 was really a turn off for me. I was hoping the new version would be a cleaner radio.

Has the new 148 been tested yet? The above reason was enough for me to give up on the old school exports and go back to a simpler cobra or uniden. With this new 148 being an export who knows...

I would say the Cobra's are a little cleaner than the new 2950, it would have to be, it is a type accepted radio or at least the radios that were submitted for testing were and the 2950 is not. I wish I had an spectrum analzyer just to see how dirty certain radios are but it's not in my budget.
