Cherokee CBS-1000 ?

#37283

Post by ronthereptile »

I'm on a budget, and am looking for a little base for the house. I am looking at a used Cherokee CBS-1000. Anyone have any thoughts on this unit? Can they be worked on?
Thanks

Cahnnel expansion

1-remove top cover
2-locate the back of display board
3-on this board you should see 2 pins, connect a jumper wire between the pins (see pic below)
4-power on the unit while holding down the #1 button, and everytime the radio is turned on hold the button for 5 seconds after power is applied
5-to change bands use the button #1 frequncy range is now 26.155-29.655 and may skip a few far and in between.

Thanks BigBopper... I have all the mods I could find online. I meant a review of the quality of the unit. I can't find any reviews of the unit online. Was wondering if anyone here had or used one and what they thought about it....
Thanks

the cherokee is a small base, hard to tune,,,,and put a swing kit in,,but for a basic base they will work fine,,,seems like SSB was stable,,there are better basic bases out there, and can be bought reasonable, like Cobra 89GTL, 142GTL,,UNIDEN "Predident" ZACHARY T,,,or Washington,,,just a few to mention,,I did like how well the Cherokee recieves,,,but the company isn't around for warranty work if you need it,,,,

Ok.... I will look for a large body Cobra model instead. I figure they would be easier to mod if I had to as well. How about a Lafayette Telsat SSB 140 Base ? They look funky and vintage...LOL
