Hello bluecurt49,
Welcome to the forum. For that radio you will need an aftermarket kit like the UTB-1, I am not a big fan of doing this to a nice radio like that though, the RF output will probably cause the talkback to squeal.
As a new member could you post an intro in the "Welcome to the Forum" topic, [Please login or register to view this link] , so other members can say " Hi", thanks.

I agree with MDY about talk back squeal. most people want to use a stock or amplified mic and with talk back it will squeal so bad you can not talk on it. you always have to turn the talk back down so low you will not be able to hear it and will need a noise cancelling mic to at least try to keep it from acting up. then you lose some audio out. just my 2 cents worth.
you can always put a relay talk back in the radio but then you will have to know how to install it properly. you will need a variable control a electrolytic sapacitor, a spdt relay and some wire to hook it up. also you will have to cut a trace to hook either up for it to work.
here is a post where one of the guy's had trouble with talk back install for you to read.. there is a lot of info here on the forum if you just look around and see what others have tried. different radio but same principal.

Re: 2970 n2
I did.it to my 2950 and that was the issue I had it squealed bad so I put it on a switch where I could turn it off. I have to turn my mike gain to about 9:00 in order to stop the squeal so I set the radio like I want it then turn it off. The advice to not add TalkBack is good advice you will have these issues.

a good noise cancelling mic will help also if you have the voice to drive it. I use a rk56 or equivilant mic on about ever radio I use with talk back or not.
