Cobra 142gtl need tech info

I'm looking at buying one of these from an auction. The guy says the metre needle doesn't move when operating the mic. He thinks it may need an antenna to move. Is this true? or does it mean that the unit is dead? All of the lights work. What do you guys think?

Even if you don't have an antenna on a Cobra 142, the neddle will move when keyed up, but could be a bad meter,,,alot of 142's are hacked up,,,Al at Sparky's CB Shack has alot of used good radios,,,reasonable prices, he is also on eBay

Thanks Big...
I bought it anyway. It was only 50 bucks. It was a good price compared to all the others I was bidding on.(they were all going for over 100!) Has there been a huge comeback to these old radios or what!? It seemed like you couldn't give them away a few years ago! LOL. I should get it in a week, and then will know if it's just the mic, meter, or whatever. Are meters easy to find, fix ? for these radios?
