Galaxy 2517
I have a Galaxy 2517 well we had a bad storm last night and I forgot to unhook the antenna and tonight when I turned it on it would not come on so I took the top off the radio and the fuse on the power supply was blown so I replaced it and now the lights can just barely be seen I have to really look good and the capacitor on the back of the radio is getting so hot I can't touch it. I am guessing that the capacitor is bad would that be anyone else guess also.

Lightning?? owww...Owww...OWW!!
Check your polarity protection diode.... on your main board.
Also check the voltage at your power switch too.

Re: Galaxy 2517
I have very little voltage at the on and off like 2v. When I first replaced the fuse on the power supply board the radio came on like it should for a while but then it had a little Smoke from something on the power supply then the radio went back with barely any lights and the capacitor on the back of the radio is getting real hot. I wonder if I could bypass the power supply and use a external one to see if the radio works ok if so then I know it is the power supply part

The transistor on the power supply is getting real hot also could it be that is bad

Can anyone say if you think it could be the transistor in the power supply causing this issue

Re: Galaxy 2517
It is sounding like the PS isn't any good, smoke off the regulating transistor(s) of the PS means it's blown. There should be 2 transistors if one is getting hot and the other stays cool it means the cool one is blown and the hot one is trying to do double duty.

Re: Galaxy 2517
Well I took the wires off the power supply and put it to 12v source and the radio still would not come on so I unhooked both finals and it came on so I hooked one final up and it would put out like 3 watts I hooked the final up and it shorted out again so I put in a new final and same thing so it is some in one of the finals but I have no idea what it could be

I unhooked the power supply and the radio still would not come on so I lifted the legs on both finals and it came on. I solder one of the finals down no problem as soon as I solder the legs of the final closest to the driver the radio went out so I put in a new final and still the radio went out so it has something to do with the final by the driver. I guess the radio is just no good now.

Re: Galaxy 2517
Which cap was shorted and did you replace the finals with a new pair?
