CB Hasn't Changed
Even after a 40 year absence, there are still people on the radio that when they get a mike in their hand are up on a pedestal complaining about other CBers, trying to talk over other stations, threatening to kill people and wanting to fight. I thought maybe after all these years it would be different, but it isn't. One station on channel 7 in ky plays music 24/7 just to plug up one of his neighbors receive capabilities, this is so juvenile, I don't understand why we can't just get along and enjoy the hobby.

I know what you mean. I've been away from the CB for almost 30 years myself and just got back into it about 7 weeks ago and things are still the same.....

Re: CB Hasn't Changed
Our society has become more impolite in general, so CB didn't a chance to improve!
I don't remember quite as much profanity in the 70's though, but it seems like profanity is fully accepted and fashionable today.
My 2 cents

Re: CB Hasn't Changed
I was in CB back in the late 60's up to the early 80's. Marriage and raising children took me out of the hobby. Then about 2 years ago I got back in. There have been some changes and some of the same ole crap. I live near the border of Canada near two large cities and hear a lot of great QSO's from both sides of the border and enjoy some great conversations with some great and knowledgeable operators.
The one big thing that kind of shocked me was the profanity on the radio. My granddaughter was sitting on my lap one day when several operators started in with some of the worse language and threats of killing each other. I had to just switch to another channel and then eventually shut the radio down. My son is in the Navy and I've heard it all. But on the radio waves?? Years ago there might have been a few words spoken, but not to the degree I've heard since getting back into the hobby.
Oh, and yes, there are some people, truly morons, who paid good money for rigs only to throw carriers, transmit music and just be all around jerks. Not kids mind you, but grown adults and in one case a retired person.
One of things I miss from years ago is hearing the younger generation on the radio. With all the new technology today they just aren't interested in this hobby.
I still enjoy the hobby and the long distance QSO's, skip or just local chit chat. I got back in to be able to enjoy this hobby more when I retire in the very near future. I may even get my Ham ticket.

Re: CB Hasn't Changed
i'm in it for the dx. nobody talks local here anymore. except the local quarry rock drivers. sad really
Re: CB Hasn't Changed
Scholar, I know what you mean. Same thing happens here in the New Orleans metro area. Lots of radio traffic and sometimes a lot of morons. Half the time people seem to want to throw out that "F" bomb a lot down here and you aint %$@#@#$$% if you aint got dis an dat! Whatever ....thats one of the reasons why I got my HAM ticket. Seems to me the amateur radio crowd are more polite and the conversations are way more intelligent and just plain fun with no obscenities being thrown around and name calling etc.... I do still like to go on 11meters but, I pretty much just like to talk on SSB and just a few close buds on AM.

don't know ifin it has or not. in my neck of the woods, there ain't no one on them anymore. every now and then, I pick up drivers a ratchetjawin but they are civil in their talk. years ago, all sorts of language and arguing was going on all the time of day and night.

Re: CB Hasn't Changed
Recently, we had a "fox hunt" and we scared this pathetic bald-headed pipsqueak into being polite. Forget being "politically-correct" here. We staked him out and then gave him a kindly talking to at our local ACE Hardware store. *no violence or cussing here*. He sure was surprised... when he heard about the term "FOXHUNT". We accepted his handshake and moved on.
He was apologizing all over the place to us and later on his radio to everybody.

Re: CB Hasn't Changed
When I was into it years ago we had a guy who would literally tell everyone that he owns the channel. Would play music, whistle and just cause havoc. Well we went on a fox hunt and surrounded his mobile home with our cars and told him to look out the window. He went silent for the night. But after he went back to his ways his antenna and mast somehow fell down and got dragged down the road behind a pick up.
Must have been the wind or something.

Nothing has really changed since 1965, newbie's and troublemaker's have come and gone, old timers are still around, been through 4 sunspot cycles, and I'm still on the air.

Nope, CB hasn't changed. I still hear the commercial beavers with their handi talkies hovering around the truck stop. That is one profession the bears can't get a grip on yet. The bears are worried about setting up their laser bait under the underpasses.

I, ummm......Heard (ahem) way back when I was growing up in San Francisco; of a group of fun-luvin kinda guys who called themselves "the west coast vigilantes". I was told (ahem again) that they were pretty good at tracking folks home 20's down and I seem to recall mention being made of a surf- fishing rod with some braided line on the casting reel, or something like that....I can't quite recall the exact particulars due to old age or something like that (must be that old-timers thang kickin' in)..........hehehe....
