ok there's a problem the frequency counter is off when you key up the radio, but everyone says that they hear me fine so maybe the meter is messed up or is there a way to adjust this out. I have tried to adjust it on the front where the knobs are but it will not let me move the numbers that fair. can this be adjusted on the inside of the radio somewhere or does this mean the counter is bad.

you did not say exactly what it is doing but if the clarifier is not unlocked you will trans on one freq and RX on the other that you are locked on.. stock you can tune the RX but not the TX. hope I explained it right.this will be more noticeble on SSB. trying to remember if the 2000 has a coarse and fine clarifier. have not messed with one in about 15 years which my buddy had one.

if the radio is staying on freq and the counter is just going off I wouls think it is a problem with the counter. the counters for these are very expensive if you even find the control box for one. I would just run it as it is if all other parts of the radio is working as it should.

Messed with it last night figured it out, it was a resistor weak solder working great now wasn't making good connection. Now I just need to find out if there some simple mods that can be done to it to give it a little bit more performance

there is some mods to help with the AM side mainly but be careful trying to get more out of the 2000 since the power supply will not handle much more than stock.. good find on your 1st problem.
the best mod for this radio I like has been the npc mod that has been out for years. will give it a little more punch. I do that mod to most of my 148 and uniden grant radios for a little more kick. even do it to a few cobra 142 radios. I will find the mod for you and post it here to look at.

this mod was posted on cbtricks by Bill Eitner years ago. it is loved by some and hated by others. so use it if you feel comfortable doing this mod for AM. you will want to leave the SSB portion alone on this radio since there is really not any good improvements on that portion.

this will make the AM side work a lot like the SSB side does.

I see you have the exact same gamma graphics I have on my Cobra 2000 GTL, but I only have one speaker... lol.......... Nice.....good luck with it. I've had mine for over 30 years now and just set it back up 2 months ago and it still is working fine. The frequency counter/clock was making an occasional noise, but it seems to have worked itself out for now.

Chopper do not know if you have noticed on so many radio problems we will tell them to check for bad solder joints. that one item is the biggest problem on radios and you just have to check solder joints in certain areas to try to find the problem. so many want to just change parts and in most cases it is just bad solder joints some where.
