Last Sunday morning on LSB 38, was pulling in Canada's Prince Edward Island (PEI) clear as a bell ... then, a host of California stations; notably Monterey.

This with a wire dipole 1/4 wave, aligned east-west.

A local here (North Florida) with a better antenna was getting back to California, too. Talking about their quake.
Uniden Bearcat BC355N, Galaxy 959, ICOM M-302, Baofeng GT-3s ... just making an electronic mess of things.

If you want to carry on long QSO's, I hear a sweet spot people use on 27.380.

I was listening in on quite a bit of skip on 38 and 39 LSB today. Was running around town and didn't get a chance to try to talk back.

during good conditions my little 5 watt AM and base antenna seems to do the trick even with a 2.2 swr althou when I had everything up to snuff with my madison and tuned ant. I was going around the world on less than 3 watts!
that said I was unable to ever get connected to Albuquerque which is only ~400 miles away. must be an node/anti-node phasing problem....probably some dang old meteorite in between sucking up all the bleeps. :ugeek:

channels 37,38,39,40 Lower side. I think the trick is all in the receive, must have a better than average antenna and a radio that is "open".(incoming signal is not filtered or squelched out of existence), it also helps if you have variable freq. RX tuning along with adjustable TX freq.

once i got all my stuff set up, i hear skip almost anytime, from everywhere. can usually talk back to them too.
my deadkey is low but the swing and full modulation are the secret. :basketball:

marven wrote: Apr 11 2006, 19:00 I'm going to say this again. I like SSB!! I am going to put up the list as complete as I can and update it.
I'm not trying to get into a ****** contest with anyone!! I was and still am trying to help anyone interested in SSB. I use am, fm, usb & lsb.
I am a member of several SSB clubs and joining more. It is my feverent hope that others will try it and like it. The clubs have been a fun and fond time for me, I want to help expand that to others if I can help.
I am working 12- 20 hours a day, as I'm sure others are also. But I will take the time to do the list. Hopefully will have most of it tommarrow.
marven
Marven, I sure hope you are still around the board. I just recented joined in here and have just picked up a SSB rig. I am planning to have it up and running by the end of May. Hopefully around then I'll be able to be learnin' a lot more from you and the other folks in here.
