here is the best way to add variable to a radio. you can do it with just a variable pot but it will burn out and its not very reliable.. you can use a variable in the front of the radio if you do not want one on the back. such as the rf gain delta tune if it has one etc. I just put one out the back myself.. the drawing shows a 100uf cap but a 220 or even a 470uf will work..just use what you have available.
