Got antenna up
Got antenna up
I got an antenna up outside this afternoon. Not much activity on it except channel 6 sounds like some skip possibly.
I used an old satellite mount and a dish arm to get an 8 feet whip antenna up.
I can't get any photos up due to photobucket not working right. Alright I finally got photobucket working. It is a pain to deal with outside websites to post pictures.
And now I get this message: "Your images may only be up to 800 pixels wide"
Ah screw it I am done wasting my time trying to get pictures to post here.

Re: Got antenna up
Good to hear! Too bad the channels are mostly quiet except for channel 6 had one guy pushing 9 on the meter. I will have to see what I can do about getting it higher up, it is a few inches above the roof peak of the house. My only concern is lightning as there has been things struck by it in certain places in the city, one was very close by I think 2 or 3 years ago.

Links are fine to as long as you don't post any that are not family friendly, setup looks good, how are the SWR?road_dogg wrote: May 19th, 2017, 1:14 pm I got an antenna up outside this afternoon. Not much activity on it except channel 6 sounds like some skip possibly.

All you have to do once you have uploaded a picture to photobucket to get it 800 pixels is click on the "Editor" button at the top of the page on photobucket, and then hit "resize"...you can then resize the pic to whatever size you need...
Then copy and paste the resized pictures link here using the [ img ] and [ / img ] codes, and picture should show up...

Re: Got antenna up
The SWR is really jumpy trying to calibrate, barely moving the know it is either pegged to one side, or no reading at all, the only time I did get close was trying to tap the knob slightly but the SWR looked higher than 2. Can't be sure due to swr knob it must be making bad contact.MDYoungblood wrote: May 19th, 2017, 4:11 pmLinks are fine to as long as you don't post any that are not family friendly, setup looks good, how are the SWR?road_dogg wrote: May 19th, 2017, 1:14 pm I got an antenna up outside this afternoon. Maybe you forgot to add the plastic washer between the antenna and bracket. JMO.

Re: Got antenna up
hahaha leave it to a cheese head to screw it up alright ok so i dont even know what they call Arizonan's,,,,(other than the illegals ) ok, well i dont want to open a can of worms right now so, all kidding aside,,,,
hey road dogg, i sure would get that antenna mount connected to the rain gutter and see what improvements it makes.
as for your SWR meter knob,,,wash it out with alcohol and a shot of air. cant hurt anyways.
and lightning can be scary but i have taken a few hits over the years, just make sure you have a dedicated lightning ground
skip has been so strong lately , i have been contemplating wether i even need an antenna

Re: Got antenna up
As for screwing things up, I have lots of things restricted on my browser especially pesky unwanted adobe flash garbage and html 5 videos, as well as other extensions for security. So some websites won't work until I figure out what needs to be turned off.443 Arizona wrote: May 21st, 2017, 5:37 am hahaha leave it to a cheese head to screw it up alright ok so i dont even know what they call Arizonan's,,,,(other than the illegals ) ok, well i dont want to open a can of worms right now so, all kidding aside,,,,

I was given that antenna many years ago, have no idea if there is a plastic washer in there.
I might have that isopropyl alcohol i think that is what it is called, other wise there is no alcohol here.
As for the mount I came up with the idea to be able to take it down real quick. It sure wouldn't be fun trying to get it down when it is wet or raining out.
The skip was pretty awesome yesterday evening, lots of other channels came alive instead of only channel 6.

Re: Got antenna up
road dogg your a good sport for all the ribb'in you got,
i just had a quick and dirty solution for adding some bias to your antenna, clip on a set of jumper cables to the metal connection at the bottom of the ant. and just let them hang or clip them to the raingutter.
i know it looks bad but would get the experiment done.

Oddly enough I thought about using some 30 amp battery clips or whatever you call'em the other day.
Re: Got antenna up
Very nice.... I am in the process of getting a new antenna up and getting it up higher.. I also have to swap out my rg213 coax for lmr 600 that I just purchased.. I have a Zerofive colossal antenna about 45 feet to the tip right now.. Lets see if I can post a pic.. I have a 10 foot 2" plumbing pipe 4 feet into 11 bags of concrete (solid base), then I have another 2" 10 foot pipe attached, put bracket at eve of house for more support.. I made a sleeve, welded nuts to a 3" pipe and slid it over the reducer that I had to use to go from 2" to a 10 foot 1 " pipe , it overlaps both pipes, then I screwed down the bolts .. I figured that was the weakest link in the chain, so I came up with the sleeve idea.. Anyway, I am swapping out the antenna for the imax 2000 with no GPK, it will be a lot lighter and I am going up another 10 feet.. This should get me 35 feet from the base of the antenna to the ground... Your setup looks nice and neat, great job..
