Anytone AT-6666 ?

What are your over all thought regarding the Anytone AT-6666 radio ? How is the performance of this radio box stock with no tuning/alignment? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

I bought one less than a month ago. It is not a radio for the average truck driver that wants a talking AM radio. Out of the box it is right on frequency, you have to use the menu to set it for CB frequencies and adjust the modulation up some. This is what I wrote about it in another topic;

Just got a Anytone AT-6666 from 88 Radio. Out of the box the default settings were AM =10w, 35w pep, FM = 40w, and SSB = 50w pep. Modulation default setting was on 30 and I left it there. went through the menu turning off the unnecessary stuff, changed the AM DK to 5w (in the menu) and now it swings to 50w, left FM and SSB alone. Frequency was right on the money out of the box, I have the display on frequency instead of channels just because i know the channel frequency and it's my preference, 6 digit readout is nice. I set the SWR protection at 2:1 to save the finals from disaster.
I have it hooked to the base antenna, everyone so far likes the sound of the stock mic and shot a little skip with it, talked to 165 (Nasty Dan) in Florida with no problem.
I'm still tweaking it, writing everything down as I go so I'll post more later in the radio mods section.

Got your PM, thanks. About the mic I am sure it can be used as long as it is wired correctly. I believe the AT-6666 has a 8v hot lead so just don't plug the mic in and key it, that could possibly short out the radio. This would be a subject to look into, I don't know the correct wiring off the top of my head.

Could it be my anytone at-6666 is dead keying at 50 watts and swinging to 55 on am and similar on SSB? Also the veritable power does not affect the adjustment? Am I doing something wrong?

My Anytone's PWR (variable power) works in all modes. Depending on the meter I use shows a difference in wattage both average and PEP, and I am using a dummy load, SWR, power, and modulation using a antenna the measurements will be different too. Looking at the RF power knob the tell-tail is pointing at the horizontal mark just above the "RFG", at that position AM is 20 w, turned all the way counterclockwise I read 5w. On SSB there should be no wattage until you talk or whistle into the mic, if you do then there is a problem.
So far I haven't had any problems and keep a eye on the temp of the heat-sink which stays cool when ratchetjawing.

Now you have to remember these radios are mass produced overseas, the manufacturer spends about 10 seconds making alignment adjustments to the radio as it goes down the line to packing so no two radios are going to be the same.

No, you will need to open it up and the AM potentiometer is clearly marked, (center middle of the board, three pots in a row) my post should have read "not in the menu". If you do this I recommend a good power meter and dummy load.

I have CRT9900 which is same radio.. Gets REALLY hot if using full power on radio so i adjusted it inside to around 15 watts peak on SSB and now can use linear with it.

I mean that the power knob is now 1~15 wats max..

Othervise radio has worked well for chinese cr*p..

Yes running full tilt on AM is going to warm up the heat sink, I'm not a AM'er anyway and on SSB it doesn't heat up as fast.

It is sold under 2 other names, CRT SS9900 and Superstar 9900. I've had mine for a year now with no problems, been out in the pickup thru the cold winter and summer heat. Only thing is the display plastic scratches easily, cleaned it up as best I could and cut a screen protector for my iPhone to fit over it.

If you back-read the post you will see. The pot's in the radio are clearly marked. See what it is doing first.

I adjusted my AM to 1w DK with the knob all the way counterclockwise to 10w max, still swings about 50w modulated. See what the SSB wattage is, should be around 60-65w PEP, leave it alone, trying to get more will just make the audio quality horrible.
