Made a deal over the phone tonight on a near-mint Uniden Washington. Hoping the shipment goes smooth and I will have it for next weekend.
Will likely be selling my President McKinley. Nothing wrong with it, I just don't like the menu-based interface.

I've been away for awhile and doing a lot of HAM radio operating lately. I bought a QYT 8900D dual band (2m & 440) mini mobile FM radio and a TYT TH UV-8200 10w FM hand held dual bander, and a new Nagoya N-77B antenna mag mount for the roof. The antenna has a really good gain....approx 2.15 db on 2m and 5.0 on 70cm (440 mhz) not bad at all! I noticed the difference right away over the lower gain antenna I was using. Oh yeah, and the new one has a center coil not a base coil like the old one which obviously made the difference. I am thoroughly enjoying the new antenna set up.

I just added a Galaxy DX 2517 to my Doghouse Base and
put up an IMax 2000 on a tripod out in the front yard.
Can't wait to see how this excites the neighbors.
Already had a neighbor at my front door complaining about the antenna.
Life goes on....

Who cares what they think! As long as you don't live in an HOA that has all those silly rules and the aerials don't extend over their property, I think you'd be good to go sir!Blue Ox2 wrote: ↑Dec 06 2017, 17:07 I just added a Galaxy DX 2517 to my Doghouse Base and

I do live in an HOA that has all those rules. The antenna isn't connected to her property in any way. I'l show you the pic tomorrow in daylight.
I saw another resident putting up a TV antenna with a rotor today.

I posted an ad on that list website that said I buy old cb radios and I pay $5 each. If you only have 1 or 10 I will take them all. Today I picked up a box. The guy said his Uncle was a trucker and these were his. I just figured it would be a bunch of 23 channel radios but when I looked in the box I got a surprise. The first one was a Uniden Grant with an echo board and who knows what else added. The second was a Cobra 29 sound trasher. Third was a Cobra 29 with a Predator 400 linear attached. Fourth was a pretty cool Midland 23 channel and the 5th was a Roberts RCV-70. As I said in another post I love RK56 mics for a mobile and there were 2 in the box as well. All this for $25.

973Kid you da man! Nice haul dude! Mike, I assume they don't have an issue with people putting antennas up considering you and you neighbor that put up the tv antenna which is fortunate. HOA's around my area are pretty uptight in some areas, I'm glad I don't have to deal with that.

Would the IMax on the roof would be less noticeable than on a tripod in the front yard? Maybe the busybodies wouldn’t notice it as much?

Ive gotten so much since I last posted here. Jan. 2017 lost everything as far as tower antenna coax etc. to a tornado. Now have newer, taller tower. A Gizmotchy 2m beam. maco v5k macocomet6 beam. Still need new coax waiting on rg213. Lost a lot of the radios that were in my "museum". But still have the galaxy 959, ss158EDX, and a few others. Since then I have acquired a cobra148 that is awesome. But the coolest new score is a yeasu ft301, and a hamarlund hq160 general coverage receiver. Been playing with the hammarlund a lot the last few days. So much so that the voltage regulator tube burnt out. [literaly it looked like the pilot light on a gas heater inside the tube]. Now keep in mind I don't know beans about anything tube except it WILL kill you. Honestly scared to work on it but fear is for kids so man up just don't get stupid right? Well no place local had an OB2 tube. Made one call on 27.205 and my phone rang 15 min. later. A buddy of mine that I do radio repair/ restoration for said I got one come get it. Long story short I scored a few hundred tubes of all difernt types and 3 browning golden eagles for a $20 mic fix. I will never win the lottery because I just did. One of the eagles works somewhat. The other 2 are in various states of repair. If possible I intend to restore all 3 back to their original glory. He is going to look for the cases to the brownings today and I'm picking them up after work. Didn't have room for them in the van last night with 6 big crates of tubes in there. 73s

Well, I sure didn't score a Bonanza like that but I just got a Leader 8100 Oscilloscope at a pretty good price and I'm learning that.
I am gathering things together to get my IMax 2000 up in the Spring.
Also, I am currently having my Cobra 142 GTL Direct Injected by Perry Meyer and adding a foot switch and going to be transmitting
Hi-Fi 11 meter from the Heart of Lancaster County in the Keystone State.
I recently purchased the Galaxy 2517 and am doing a great job of learning the operations of that rig.
Have plans to get my Ham license in the coming month as well.
73,
Mike

A little bit of story first... my son had a friend way back in High School/Jr High (early to mid 90s) and he knew the kids parents really well. The father just died back in November '17. His last few years he had gotten deep into CB radio repair. Bought a van, got it all equipped as a "mobile bench" and was doing really well at it when he passed.
My son took it on himself to hold a benefit for the mom and was able to raise quite a bit to help her.... we were all really proud of him. To ADD to it... I am in an "old folks country/blues/classic rock band...and we played the benefit gratis.
Why am I telling you this?
When it was all said and done.... she was left with a bunch of equipment Skip had owned. She invited my son over as she was moving.
She started going over ALL this equipment and asked if Tim or I wanted it. Tim told her.... "no way that was happening... that she could sell it for a LITTLE something at LEAST. She told him that the money from the benefit.... completely handled her mover..... Tim and I had helped her... and that if WE DIDN'T take it....it was going in the garbage... she wanted it gone.
Tim got first pick (and I don't blame him!) He got two primo pieces a nice Washington base and an MFJ-259 antenna analyzer... .all of it works. I wound up with a nice MFJ antenna tuner, a Siltronix frequency counter, a PDC SWR/Power/Modulation meter (I think... a nicer big one ... a 4001), a 50 ohm dummy load 0 - 650 Mhz 1500Watt, an antenna switch, another nice SWR/Power/Mod meter... and several other pieces in there that I don't even know what they were.
She would not take anything...... period.

Well, it's been on my bucket list for a long time and since I'm not getting any younger and the time was right, I finally bumped it up to a 3cx10,000a7. Mostly for DX but sometimes I like to have a little fun with the locals. It's a lot of fun I will say!
